We hope to in this section inform you so whether you choose Idealshutters or, go elsewhere, you can at least be better informed as to what makes a good shutter.
Plantation Shutters originated in Europe but have been made most popular in the USA, where they were typically used on the outside as a hinged door pulled across to protect windows during storms. Today they are increasingly popular, with the USA leading the way, and now with a resurgence in Europe and warmer climate country countries like Australia.
Shutters are regarded as the most prestigious of all window furnishings for good reason. Largely because of their light control feature (the amount can be regulated by the amount of closure), the excellent thermal insulation of light weight real wood, but most importantly because of the superior ambiance and prestige they seem to create in a room, regardless of the outside weather. Their beauty is hard to convey in a picture.
Indoor plantation shutters are usually real wood. However today their are many substitutes offered; wood and plastic composite (sometimes hollow), PVC, MDF, Aluminium. There are advantages and disadvantages (see comparison table). Idealshutters recommends real wood, even if painted, for the most genuine natural appearance and durability.
What else is important in the purchase of plantation shutters? Whether the material is likely to warp over time, the coating is likely to last a long time, is the design and manufacture robust and whether you know what you are really getting! Some people will pay much more for a brand name, but what is the real difference? In all likelihood the materials in quality shutters are the same. So why pay the higher price?
Delivery time. Idealshutters manufactures here in Australia. Over 80% of shutters sold however come, often custom made, from China. One way to tell if your shutters are made here or in China is the supply time. If the supplier is taking 5 to 10 weeks, they most likely will be coming from China.
